Zambia: Tuntemba street vendors build market

By Tuntemba Association

Tuntemba Association members, in Kalulushi, Zambia, have decided to build their own market after attempts to trade in the town were met with repeated opposition. Eddie Lubunda, chairman of the Association, said that his association approached the Zambia Social Investment Fund to finance the project after members of the association raised the required 15 percent of the total cost by contributing labour and building materials. The Kalulushi District Administration and the Municipal Council provided the land for the market. At least 250 street vendors will be accommodated in the new market when construction is completed in eight months time.
